We could say there are 2 kind of narcissists, the born ones and the made ones. The born one have a physical/brain injury they born with and parents of these children soon enough found them killing little animals, doing dangerous things for themselves or others etc….and then the rest of narcissists are made up ones by environment. We could say it is a circle, it takes a strong personality and a great heart to get out of that circle and function in a emphatic normal way. I would contrary of what Ollie is saying, that with enough time and therapy even his parents could change their way. Just my thoughts

I guess that's how my grandmother was able to convince a restaurant manager to make every family with children leave and eat somewhere else. Then when the waiter took longer than 3 minutes to bring her beloved cup of hot water with lemon, she screamed and threatened to climb up and jump off the roof. This was her "good side".
We're giving them too much credit. Personal experience shows me that they do feel. The feeling (no matter how good or bad) is always funneled through a filter of the primal emotion of fear, which translates and manifests as anger and hatred. Their heads were normal at one point and incredible trauma at the right time rewired their heads. They are not beyond help, but believe they are. It is the worst kind of addiction because it is perceived to be THEIR ONLY METHOD OF SURVIVAL. If you care okay say a prayer and move away because this is a malignant self-defeating energy. They aren't machines any more or less so than any other human. Their programming is actually overly simple which is why it boggles the minds of people who are healthy. Why would you want to be this short sighted? They were too young to understand their choice and lack the self-confidence which introspection requires.
Shrinking Violet (YouTube site) mentioned a key trait missing from mainstream diagnosis and I agree with her: Narcissist Rage. If you're a legitimate doctor, please see about getting that added. Thank you, and thanks for the video.
Thanks for putting this up. Lots of stuff is getting hard to access. The awareness of this subject seems to be intentionally ignored and unaddressed. Many of our indoctrinated norms facilitate this mindset and its formation.

The Susan Smith's and those like my egg donor seem to out number by far the idealized Leave it to Beaver type mommies but they will never tell you that at the Hallmark Card Store and they don't make cards for those types of momsters.

You CANNOT confront a narcissist and get them to admit fault. I once kindly approached my friend, because I felt like she wasn't talking to me during our whole trip at Disney together. I had finally gotten her alone, so I kindly asked her if anything was wrong–even asking if I had done something wrong. She looked at me like I was crazy, and denied everything. Then, later over text, she told me that what I did was extremely confrontational, and a very intimidating thing to do (to ask if someone's ok? If everything is alright?) But she never tried to repair the relationship at all, during or after the trip. She only put the blame on me by creating this crazy scenario in which I was the harmful one she was scared of (Justifying her jealousy and delusions). It was later that I realized she was not my true friend–only in love with herself, and the reflection of herself that I gave her. Absolute jerks, these people. :(

My mother died in 94' and the horrible effects of what she did (Insulted me to death from age 5 to age 26), kidnapped my son by lying to me, asking me to send my son for a 3 week vacation to Cape Cod (she immediately started custody hearings, lying to the court telling them she did NOT know where I was, she got custody and then brainwashed my child till age 11. Told him I was no good, a whore, a loser). My son, who is 36 now, hates me. I have no recourse because I did NOT know this was an affliction….I thought my mother was just someone who just hated me!

is it possible to have an addiction to your narcissist? my ex is a narc. we dated for 3 years and he absolutely destroyed me with his abuse. he disposed of me back in august by randomly blocking my number and refusing to speak to me again. i spent months in tears,no answers,no opportunity to talk to him to see what happened,nothing. i was so severely depressed i barely felt alive. I doubt he will ever speak to me again but im terrified that if he does ill fall for him again. I dont trust myself.Am i addicted to him? i am very much aware of how dangerous he is but i still miss him somehow.(stockholm syndrome?)

Dr. D Russell, thanks for posting this, much needed info online. I realized, that my then narcissistic husband, was faking his emotions, because he could go from laughing(happy) to a horrific rage(anger x 100)..in the matter of 1 second. Somebody who was actually, really happy…couldn't do that. I know I can't just snap into a rage, if I am in a moment of happiness and laughing, just having a good time. He could, and he would. His reputation was so bad, that hookers wouldn't even have nothing to do with him. So, what would he do when he would get turned down by a hooker? he would start 'preaching' to them. he literally called himself preaching the word of our Lord and savior to someone. What whack job! I found out so many sick things about him. i am just so thankful the Lord got me out of that horrific situation. I give my Lord all the Glory and thanks, for making a safe way for me to leave. BTW, he had a RC priest, call me and try to convince me to go back to him, because…."God don't like divorce." I let him"priest" know, that my GOD was the ONLy one who had freed me from that bond and set me free! I let the priest know, we had two very different beliefs and he had no clue as to how manipulating the man was, that i had left. The abuse didn't seem to matter to the priest, at all. It meant more to him, that i "go back and be a good wife". he even offered to give me a ride back to hell, to my abuser! That's when i kinda snapped back with a few choice words and laid the law down to the RC priest!
