“Get it Right” is the Paul Weller Jam/ Bruce Springsteen/ Bowie little demo idea that actually won a Music Contest for Hagins back in the Mid/ Late 1980’s just before or during when he joined up with Greenhouse Effect. “Get it Right” is another frustrated little Song and when I hear it today, I can hear the bare skeletal ideas that Would later become “Ben is Dead”, ‘Manipulation’, and maybe “Five Years” says Hagins in 2010 for Rock City Boston; “So many of my songs dealt with the emotions and thoughts that swirled around my stifled desire for this One South bay Chick and “Get it” is no different as lyrics read; “I had my teens -years that I can never Live again,…now I’m askin’ Lord what can I do ?? ‘ Get it Right ?? – I see what I want, am I gonna take no ?? Have I been stressin’ all these years for nothin’ ?? GET IT RIGHT !!…… HAGINS Continues; “I am quite surprised and amused here in 2010 to look back at the lyrical depth of alot of these early songs when I was 20 and 21 that I recorded at home in my bedroom or at South Bay Sound Studio (Media Kitchen),….there was a hell of ALOT goin’ on inside my head back then ,..and it is really quite stunning to me now today,….My lyrics of way back then were much deeper and intelligent than I thought that they would be as I remember back,…..I haven’t heard alot of these old songs and ideas in years; Lyrics continue; “Your heart beats on twinkies and trust in a way that I never knew,….- the 20’s are gonna have to be my adolescents,…but I only wanna party with you – this time” etc,…. – Get it Right is a Great little Song in the end,..where the grunge guitar is somewhat scaled back and relegated to just one speaker,….This song was recorded at home at 251 using four tape recorders synched together ( There was NO four track or Mix),….bass was never added as equipment was not available after being destroyed; “I wish I could go back in time – turn back the clock and add the bass to “Maury A Lad Insane” , “Soviets”, and “Boy”,….but I also wanna finish these songs and mix them proper,…maybe someday re-record them but I’m 45 now” says Hagins “These songs would have been all completed and sounding great but my brother destroyed my recording equipment and threw it all in a bin,….he also crushed tapes and threw out many original songs that were quite good,…and I do not remember them today,..no faint idea,..but there are atleast ten songs ,..that are gone forever – maybe more ,..that were in the equipment” – Hagins recalls his brother in Later Years looking for Hagins’ big master tapes that he recorded with Bill Krodel and Mark Nathanson and other stuff from South Bay Sound recorded with Bill Rothberg in an effort to destroy it too , as well as Hagins drums, Guitars, keyboards, chords, guitar straps,..anything musically related; “My brother would seek to destroy or throw away any of my precious musical shit,…so ‘THATS’ when I began to purchase storage units – that were quite expensive,…but I had to,….try to imagine if you will if the DH Had gotten a hold of the master tapes for “Ben is Dead”, White Black Thang, Brandy, and the Magic Man ,..and threw them in a bin for the landfill,..or burned them,…the fucking guy was a Sociopath !!” – ‘Get it Right’ remains today as a nice Little song – albeit an incomplete one with no bass or mix; “It sounds fine,..Like all my shit does,….no, its not as clean and as tight as “Brandy” or ‘Ben is Dead’,..but its good enough !!” says Hagins “When I look back at my Life Long ago,..I just wish now that People would just be nice and respectful to one another and alot of petty shit can be avoided,..Maybe if more People had been cool to me , I would have ended up this Rich Real Estate Agent dude up in Palos Verdes or some idiot moron dentist or insurance salesman in a cubical instead of being a nowhere Musician at all,…it probobly would have been a better life for me,..and I would be somewhere More happy today than I now am,…..and I have written and said this so many times; being a dick to a little kid won’t make him tough or make him a man or more of a man,..it will just turn him into an even bigger and confused angry pussy and if it doesn’t than the person is almost not even human at all – A person who doesn’t get mad at shit is just basically a Robot and I AM NOT THAT – ONE might as well be dead then ,…When i read in the newspaper now that some dude flipped out and went crazy – I suddenly no longer question it now,…for years, I was like all the other dipshits and I’d be like “what was his problem dude ??” ,…NOW I SEE IT ALL,..NOW I KNOW WHY !! Hagins calls his stint with the Greenhouse Effect and Guitarist_Phil Keegan the Most important and creative times of his entire life; “There was no better band in the world and NO QUESTION ABOUT IT,…I wish I had filmed and recorded ALL of our gigs and even OUR REHEARSALS TOO – BECAUSE THEY WERE AMAZING,…..I don’t think that I ever got the respect of Flipper and OR Ted but with Something like the Great G.e. it doesn’t even matter – I never Got respect from ANYBODY,…THATS NOT IMPORTANT NOW ,….WHATS IMPORTANT were those times and ‘that’ music,..I can even remember times where we were bored and myred in futility but then we would drink coffee or get stoned or drunk and we would still Rock anyway – for OURSELVES – IT DIDN’T MATTER if anyone was there or not,…and Let me tell ya,…that Live Footage of G.e. with Phil Keegan at the Music Machine as filmed by Video Bob
