My father is a narcissist – text book – he took 23 years of life from me and when I left he was angry but then he moved on to another source for supply. Anyone had experience with controlling personality disorders? I lived with a man who gave me an evil look if I socialised with the neighbour when he wasn't present. Over the Christmas holidays he'd be phoning me three times a day, wouldn't take the hint if I refused a beer etc.
My daughter is calling me a narcissist, does anyone know how I go about finding out if I am one, I am honest, I don't want to 'fool' a Therapist, I want to really find out. It is not that I can't just believe my daughter but there are a lot of complex circumstances making it confusing. Thanks for any help.

Well shit. This hit me pretty hard. I don't know. It's terrible to not have parents. One parent who is constantly working and the other who never shows up. It sucks. I never had a childhood. I'm an adult who is afraid to trust. I mean, I would never ask for it to happen to anyone else. Just. It sucks.

It is as if narcissism is the root problem, and the degree determines what are considered separate traits. Psychopathy seems to be the most extreme form of narcissism.

Thank you for making this video. I just left a narcissist who was also bipolar. We were together 3 years before I realized I couldn't make the situation any better. I wrote a song about the experience- link here- don't remember me It helped to heal me. maybe it will do the same for others :)
That is very true. If I disagree with my mother or if I become a religion different to hers, if I talk to someone she doesn't like I am ostracised/disherited. Oh she loves weilding power
I was lucky to have animals and horses and my mother loved horses too, but she ended up controlling and for six months I stopped looking after my pony as my 'mother who knows best, took over'. My mother used to really shout at me during our lessons. She had high standards and I did learn something but I was never good enough. We did have good children's parties but it was more of case that she 'looked a good parent' to the outside world

He should say, "especially their children", not "even their children". Children are only the extension of a narcissists or their worst enemy and competition for the attention of the other parent which they claim for themselves. A child with one narcissistic parent only has the attention of one half of one sane parent, even if they have two around them.
