I don't doubt Sam Vaknin's expertise on this subject, however I notice the more videos I watch the more I start to see some of these characteristics in myself and other people. I believe most people exhibit some of these traits at one time or another in varying degrees. It gets to the point where I wonder if someone doesn't display any of these characteristics is that just a well crafted persona? If a person doesn't like to have a party for their own birthday does that mean they're a Narcissist or are they just uncomfortable being the center of attention? If you're concerned you may be a Narcissist maybe that fact alone means you're not. Confused.
There is more woman NARC in my book. Man has to work hard on their muscles and making money to get attention. A woman need only a pair of boobs and she is set.

Every time he says "The Narcissist" just realize he is talking about himself and replace the "The Narcissist" with "I, Sam Vaknin". It actually makes the videos more interesting. An intelligent Narcissist, or person for that matter, could spin any person into a Narcissist. Labels mean nothing, if you don't like a person then empower yourself and get away from them as fast as you can.
Glad to see people agree that there's probably far more women narcs out there than believed to be. Men and women as a society are always inclined to cut women a brake and slam a man any chance we can get (and that includes guys slamming guys).
This is rubbish ! I've just been diagnosed and I'm nothing like that. I'm just like a male narcissist. I don't over concentrate on my looks cause i feel i don't need to. I don't wear make up everyday and I concentrate more on my mental abilities like intelligence, success, knowledge.

damn,i think my sister is a narcissist, almost whenever i meet her i end up crying because of her cruel words, i love her very much i find it hard to accept that she is turning into something like our father who was a narcissistic psychopath, when she was younger she used to be deep and thoughtful, we were friends and she acted like she cared about me, now she is so superficial and arrogant, she lost all her depth and she became addicted to shopping brands, when i talk to her is like talking to a wall, it's always about her beauty, charm, intelligence…etc. i really miss her before being 21, and i don't know how am i supposed to deal with this transformation, which is so sad.

Hi sam, I am thinking hard about what you said about narcissists having eating disorders. I was a high achieving person with an eating disorder, but I don't think I was ever a narcissist. I was always jealous of the women who were worth so much more than I was and didn't have to look perfect". I was was very codependent… I actually now beoieve that the eating disorder helped me to distract me from the severe malignang abuse that I suffered so I could "live a normal achieving life". Could I be a narcissist too?? I don't see that the facts bear that out, but now I am interested in the connection and the nature of the relationship between the differing coping strategies.

ive noticed you focus on the conservatives & men as misogynists greatly. i find that fascinating cuz i think the reverse is much more true. at least those people are more responsible, irritable yes, frustrated yes, stressed out yes, but not so much irresponsible. but those who are on the left end of the political spectrum will demand that you accept with flaws without standards or call you a bigot. and female narcs love to use those tactics to hide their own misconduct.

I think that a narcissistic society can aggrieve the condition in a narcissistic person, but pathological narcissism begins with the formation of what it´s called primary defense mechanisms of projection, and these primary defenses begin at a very early age in the child, when the child separates psychologically from the mother, at the age 2 yrs. or so. That is why narcissism is so difficult to treat (same for the borderline or other character disorders). Sam makes a great point when he said that the best hope for a narcissist is to hit rock bottom and to learn to become his/her own parent. He is a great example of a recovered narcissist.
I would think that women would be more likely to become inverted narcissists because most of the behaviors that male narcissists exhibit are culturally unacceptable behaviors for a woman. For instance, a narcissistic man might go through twelve girlfriends in a month and rarely see his child, but if a woman behaves that way society will shun her as a whore and worthless mother. There are probably just as many female narcissists as males, it's just not as obvious to other people. It is extremely common to find a male narcissist with an inverted narcissistic mother. An astounding number of men can relate to the song, "Mother" by Pink Floyd.
